Burwood Brickworks is built on an old brick factory in Melbourne’s inner east. Rokon are pleased to have undertaken the infrastructure works to service this exciting development.
Burwood Brickworks is the flagship project for a major developer, consisting of retail and commercial development, high rise apartments, wetlands/village green, civil subdivision, and medium density subdivisions. The retail precinct is anticipated to be the most sustainable shopping centre in the world, with the Living Building Challenge being adopted by the developer.
Rokon were initially engaged to construct infrastructure to service the retail and commercial precinct, consisting of greenfield and brownfield works of 3x VicRoads intersections, 10m tall shotcrete and soil nail retaining wall, apartment basement excavation, relocation of authority assets, and new service construction.
We have since also been engaged to complete the first stages of the medium density civil subdivision.
Rokon coordinated works around retail precinct builder and negotiated access for builders, even allowing builders to work within out site boundaries where required, to prevent any delays to the sustainable development. Brownfield works often present many design and construability issues, and we worked closely with designers, authorities, and our client to ensure the most cost effective and timely outcome was achieved, at all times demonstrating a willingness to work to the best outcome for all, not just for Rokon.
In a municipality unused to civil construction of this scale, we engaged with residents to allay their concerns about construction processes, and showed them the benefits of the project to encourage them to buy into the project.
The build is well underway, and Rokon are on programme to deliver the project within client’s required timeframes, ahead of contractual schedule.
