Overview

The project involved the full redesign and reconstruction of a Melbourne Water waterway traversing the Rosewood Estate due to challenges posed by highly reactive ground conditions. This critical infrastructure upgrade required intricate engineering solutions to manage ongoing water flow, stabilize challenging soil conditions, and enhance the waterway’s structural integrity and functionality.

Scope

Full excavation and realignment of the waterway. Continuous management of flowing water during the works to prevent environmental and operational disruptions. Stabilization of highly reactive onsite clays using Gypsum and Lime stabilization techniques to enhance soil properties and prevent future movement or instability. Construction of rock beaching for erosion control and bank stability. Building of porous rock walls and chute and culvert rework to regulate water flow and improve hydrological performance. Installation of shared pedestrian for community access and integration to meet client’s, council’s & Melbourne Waters expectations.

Outcome

The project successfully balanced technical, environmental, and community considerations, delivering a robust, sustainable, and accessible waterway. Rokon delivered project well ahead of contracted timeframes, allowing our client to get landscaping installation commenced in time for the crucial growing period.
